Maybe you've never heard of AaLAPW before. It's a week, started by Petfinder, that helps accelerate adoptions for "Less Adoptable" pets. If you read the link above, it describes in greater detail what classifies as a less desireable animal.
These are pets that, despite being extremely loveable, cute and snuggly, are passed over for other animals. They end up being left in foster care or shelters for a year or more. They are overlooked for silly reasons. Unfortunately, they just don't meet a potential owner's picky requirements, such as color. Or maybe they at one time had a health issue, which makes their medical record look less than perfect. There are just so many prejudices that owners have. And somehow those erroneous ideas are okay when they're applied to pets. But if they were applied to humans? They're called racism, ageism and prejudice against the "disabled".
Meet Obie...how can you hate this face?
Now the humans at The Mew Crew are big believers in kitties, including black cats, getting their fair chance. It seems that the website Your Daily Cute recently had something to say about this, too. If we yet have to
convinced you that black cats are 100% awesome, please check out Your Daily Cute's recent article: http://www.yourdailycute.com/2010/09/black-cats-are-new-black.html
See? They really are awesome. How about we keep the spirit of AaLAPW going by helping to find black cats homes? Sounds good to me!
