Which kitty is right for you?

Recently I made a stop by a DC area shot clinic and was observing a poster they had up that goes along with their Meet Your Match adoption campaign. It actually is a campaign started by the ASPCA and I love the idea behind it and also the descriptions of their kitty personalities.

You can read more on the ASPCA's Meet Your Match Feline-alities on their website. I think from now on I might start ranking all of our guys based upon this system. Cyrano, for example, would be an Executive.

The idea behind this campaign is to make sure that an animal goes home with the right type of owner whose personality fits theirs. This is supposed to help cut down on returns and provide for a happier connection.

Often times when people get a cat, they blurt out "I want an orange kitty! Only an orange kitty will do!" but really have NO clue about what type of personality they want. Or that cats even do more than sleep when they get older. In fact, I think they think they believe are only two speeds of cat--a kitten and a sleeper. I have rarely seen a kitten who has stayed exactly that way and an adult (unless they're left alone a lot) who is happy just sleeping on a chair with no human interaction.

I have also seen have seen more people pass over a cat simply due to its color. I mean, yeah they pass over the black ones, but people will also overlook a gray stripey kitty because it's not "solid gray". We don't mind that you may be a sucker for an orange cat (and we do want you to be hooked on your new family member), but we might have a suggestion for you that isn't in your color group.

So do we have the cat for you? Of course we do.

But you'll also need to keep an open mind about type and also color.

We'll ask you all sorts of questions about what type of person you are, what your schedule is like, what your home is like and how does your household functions. We'll then make a suggestion for you based upon what we think is a good fit.

So go ahead and send us an email at mewcrew [ at ] gmail [ dot ] com and let us suggest a mew for you.

A Busy Week For The Mew Crew

You'll notice that the blog has been a little quiet over the past week or so. But trust me, we've been busy!

Unfortunately, it wasn't so much with Mew Crew stuff.  Oh, the glorious life of working for a small company.

This busy schedule leaves very little time to do things like laundry, making connections with new families, shower, grocery shop, take cute kitty pics, make blog posts, hand out kitty treats. Oh and sleep...unfortunately cat naps aren't a regularly scheduled part of my day, unlike the Mew Crew.

Here's what has been going on:
  • An out-of-town wedding.
  • Packing/unpacking from said out-of-town wedding.
  • A trip to a shot clinic for two nursing moms. They also were tested and are negative for FIV. You always need to test an animal just to be sure. (Note: FIV kitties AREN'T bad kitties to adopt.  There are several local rescue groups who are looking for homes for FIV+ kitties.)
  • Trying to make final spay/neuter arrangements for the rest of the males. It's gonna be quite an effort, but very rewarding.
  • Work....did I mention work? (Note: sleeping and/or showering not included on this list)
Oh...And the most important thing?
We got three of our guys to their new forever home! We were so excited to send off these three loving guys. Two were 16 weeks and one was 14 weeks. I'll make another post on their adoption a little bit later. They were some very sweet guys, so it was also sad to see them go. But their new owners are VERY happy and were so enamored when they saw the cute faces peek out of the carriers.

I do love an adoption success story!

Meet Spot: A Nudge

Oy veh, he's such a nudge!

Meet Spot. He's one of our most infamous characters with TMC. Look at how cute he is! But please, do not be fooled by his sleeping persona.

Spot claiming his spot on the floor.

Here's Spot's stats...

Name: Spot, Nudgie Spot, Spotty
Age: 1 year, almost exactly
Breed: Domestic Short Hair - Tabby with White
Sex: Male...for now!
Favorite Activity: Hanging out in the middle of the kitchen floor.

This guy is a handful! He is cute and affectionate.

Spot, Noodle and his sister, Nudge, were just SO adorable. We affectionately called this litter of three "The Nudges" because they were real pests when they were younger (and Noodle still is). One of his favorite tricks when he was a kitten was riding on your shoulder as you'd do chores around the house. He's a bit too big for that now, but he is still just as affectionate.

He greets you when you wake up, is there when you come home and always is waiting for the last pet goodbye when you leave for the day. You can tell he really views himself as more than a pet--he thinks he's a member of your household and family. And of course he loves The Feather, The Glowy Bug and also enjoys a good swing at the captive ball circular thing which I have yet to come up with a cute name for.

We've definitely gotten a kick out of his company, but he deserves to have a forever home where he is the star. I think he'd also enjoy a safe yard to play in and definitely would want his designated spot on the kitchen floor. He'd do well very with other kitties, but probably won't tolerate dominant unneutered male cats very well. So as long as the other cats in your house are fixed, he'll be a happy camper. He's on schedule to be neutered in the next week and a half, too. He'd be great for all types of families, but I'm not sure how he'd feel about large, hyper dogs.

So do you have some room in your heart for this amazing kitty? If so, email us at mewcrew *at* gmail *dot* com!

The War Continues: Day 526

Just kidding. I have no idea how long Patches and Cyrano have been at war, but they are often found like this.....

For those of you who don't speak cat, you are probably thinking this is just a picture of two cats on a bed.

Patches (L), Cyrano (R)
But for those of you living in a 2+ cat household, you can easily recognize the subtleties of what's going on here.

You will notice Cyrano has a proud corner spot with his back turned to Patches. He's looking off as if to say "Oh, there's another cat in here? I didn't notice." Patchy is sitting back farther on the bed, giving Cyrano plenty of room, but is looking at me as if to say "I'm glad you're here...will you hurry up and get this yahoo outta here?"
Stay tuned to see how this turns out.

Well Hello, Samson!

So Samson was up to his old crazy antics.  His foster mom is just so smitten with him!

This fuzzy guy is always desperate for some love and attention. He usually demands some at least several times a day. He thinks there just is never enough to go around!

Since a picture speaks 1,000 words, let me show you a few more pictures of Samson.

But he's a squirmer. He can't sit still. And it is funny to watch. It takes him about 25 minutes to settle down in a lap. He's always running under your feet. He's constantly jumping around whatever you're doing trying to check out your project. And he LOVES to play with toys.

Blurry pics are almost a given with him. So that's when you need to break out the big guns...The Feather!

Check out the power of this object over Samson...

Blurry tail = the only part of him not sitting still.

Finally! Look at this Tam-tone! Look at that dat face!

I also like the way his two paws look when they're together like that. What a kitty! Heh. I think after this photo was taken, he deserved a tasty treat for posing so well!

I have yet to meet a cat that doesn't LOVE The Feather. I'll have to cover this mystical object in another post, but I just wanted everyone to see the cuteness of Samson.

Oh Hey, Girlfriend!

So isn't it always the case that right before you are about to take a picture the kitty whom you're trying to capture uncurls from whatever is the cutest-ever-pose that you've seen and then ends up looking like....this....

Oh dat's right, Girlfriend!

Oh well. She was posed in a really cute way right before the phone cam fired up!

As you can see she's a beautiful long haired tabby cat. That's "stripey" for you people who are new to the world of cat colorings.

Girlfriend's details...
Name: Girlfriend
Age: 1 year
Breed: Domestic Long Hair - gray/white tabby
Sex: Female (spayed)
Favorite Activity: Annoying her male foster cats, specifically Patches.

Girlfriend is very girly. She's a smaller kitty and the perfect lap cat. She likes to follow you around the house.

When she was probably about 6 months old, she fell in love with Patches. He would walk around and she would trot after him. He would lay down and she would always want to be right there with him, too. But he didn't like this idea as much as she did and eventually let her know...

She says "Look how pretty I pose for you!"

He says: "I'll never give in to...YOU!"

Patch doing "The Patch Double Scratch" on her head.

Poor Girlfriend! She just wanted Patches to love her! Heh...little did she know, he's neutered. Sorry, Girlfriend! She now spends most of her time trying to spread her love around, especially if there are any kittens nearby. She just has so much love to give, that she'd be great with human kids, too.

By the way, Girlfriend also has a sister that looks exactly like her if you're looking for a lovely pair of kitties.
Email us at mewcrew *at* gmail *dot* com for more information on Girlfriend!

Samson: A Distinguished Cat!

Okay, let me show you this very lovey kitty named Samson...

I know, I know, it's a little dark, but you can see how he sits in a very lovely pose. His elbow is hanging there over the edge. He is actually sitting up really high on a piece of furniture. What a goofball.

Samson's stats:
Name: Samson, Tam-tone
Age: 1 year
Breed: Domestic Long Hair - silky black
Sex: He used to be a boy
Favorite Activity: Walking under your feet! Silly cat, get outta here before you make me trip!

Pictures really do not do this guy justice. First of all, they just can't quite catch how beautiful his fur is. He's got very lovely paw floofs (a paw floof is that extra bit of fur in between the toes of a long haired cat). He also has some hairs on his chinny, chin, chin. And then there's his beautiful feather duster tail. So pretty. Isn't it sad that most people are superstitious about all black cats? I mean I might be superstitious about one if I was in Salem, Massachusetts AND it was Halloween AND I had recently seen a witch nearby AND I had just broken a mirror AND I had lost all common sense.

So, let me repeat that for the record....black cats are cool man! How could anyone hate on a black cat? They are sleek and beautiful. People love black cars don't they? It's the same thing, except these guys are self cleaning so no need to worry about giving them a bath once a week. I'll speak more about black cats in another post, but I just had to say it now while it came up.

Anyways...

Another thing the camera doesn't catch is his goofy personality. See Exhibit A, below.

Exhibit A: Samson

You're looking at how Samson spent MOST of his winter. He was not interested one bit in getting his feet wet. Instead he wanted laptime, where he squirmed around until he found the best spot possible and just take a nap.

When he wants let into a room, he'll stand and meow at the door until you open it. He'll enjoy chillin' with you all summer long in the AC.  He's just a good cat to have as a companion.

Would you love to have Samson in your home?  Send an email to mewcrew [ at ] gmail [ dot ] com!

Roar! It's Fluffer!

I am kitty, hear me roar!

What a beast!

Just kidding. Fluffer was only yawning. Before that he was sleeping really nicely on the bed.

Fluffer's stats:
Name: Fluffer! (yeah, you have to say it with excitement, hence the exclaimation)
Age: ~5 months
Breed: Domestic Long Hair - brown/gray tabby
Sex: Little Boy...for now.
Favorite Activity: Hanging out on top of your personal computing devices.

Fluffer is definitely a spunky little boy. He jumps here and there and everywhere. And yes, he's all about sitting on the actual computer. If you call out "Fluffer!" to him, he'll quickly stand up and find you wherever you are.

Oh and his tail...he flips his tail like crazy. It's almost like a weather vane in a tornado. He's a loveable little rag doll. He loves being picked up, but he can always amuse himself if you are too busy to play.

I snapped a few pics while using the built in LED flash on the camera. Oh, so torturous, I know...

Fluffer, in repose.

Just look how happy he is? He was actually very into sleeping on bed, but started squinting as soon as the flash turned on.

There is just one more thing about this little boy that makes him very special.  Just email us at mewcrew [ at ] gmail [ dot ] com to find out what it is!

He also has a beautiful gray and white sibling, if you'd like to also learn something about that one, too.

Meet My Noodle!

Okay, check him out in all his splendid glory...

Isn't he so handsome?

Here's Noodle's stats:
Name: Noodle, Noodley, Noodle Boy
Age: 1 year
Breed: Domestic Short Hair - Tuxedo (black and white)
Sex: Still a male...for now.
Favorite Activity: Rolling around, acting like a fool!

He's got a long, sleek body and probably won't be a chunky cat when he gets older. You see that little white spot under his neck? I like to think of him as a mini tuxedo. You see his beautiful green eyes? Yeah, probably not so well in the cell phone pic. Oh well.

Noodle is a great, inquisitive cat. He's always meowing at you to tell you something or other. He'll sit on the edge of the sink and tell you how to brush your teeth. He's very interested in micromanaging when you do the dishes. He'll help when you're doing a project, such a knit, but that's just because he's waiting to walk off with the yarn. He LOVES a feather on a stick and a laser pointer. And he definitely walk away with binder clips and barrettes should you have any of those laying around.

And you can't tell from this photo, but he has long incisors. I can't believe I'm about to admit this on the internet, but I have been enamored with his teeth for quite some time now.  His teeth you ask?  Yes...cuz they are so pearly and white!  I usually exclaim "Noodle Teeef!" at him when I see him. When I tell him "Gimmie those Noodle Teef!" he'll often bear his incisors a little and then I grab one. Just like this...

I swear...he likes it. He really does. LOL

Point is, he's a funny little guy and very personable.  Adopt him today from the mewcrew [ at ] gmail [ dot ] com.
